ExactSize

About ExactSize

A free tool that compresses an image to an exact file size — and does the whole job inside your own browser.

What this site does

ExactSize takes a picture and a target file size — 20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 200KB, 1MB, or any number you type — and hands back a JPG, PNG or WebP that lands at or under that number. It keeps your pixel dimensions and lowers quality only as far as it can; past that it shrinks the picture instead, which looks better at the same file size. It never hands back a file above your target.

Who runs it

ExactSize is made and maintained by the ExactSize team. That is the whole of it: no company name on the door and no real name attached — just this site. If you want to reach a person, use the contact page.

How it works

The tool runs entirely in your browser. Your image is read with the browser's File API, drawn onto a canvas, re-encoded with canvas.toBlob() and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is uploaded, there is no server in the middle, and there is no account to create. You can turn off your Wi-Fi after the page has loaded and it will still work.

Why it is free

It is free to use, with no watermark and no usage limit. We plan to keep it running with third-party advertising. The privacy policy spells out what that means for you.
